Can I read deleted WhatsApp or unsent Instagram messages?

Only if the original notification preview was saved before the message was deleted or unsent. Notification History Archive can keep that preview on iOS 27. It cannot recover messages removed before setup or retrieve the conversation itself.

How can I see a deleted WhatsApp notification?

If Notification History Archive captured it before deletion, open the app and find the WhatsApp entry by date or search. The saved preview can remain even when the chat says “This message was deleted.”

That archived text is a separate copy of the notification. It does not restore a message inside WhatsApp. WhatsApp explains deletion here.

Can I see an unsent Instagram message?

The same rule applies: the original preview must have reached your archive first. Instagram may later replace it with an unsent notice. The archive can show both entries if both were captured.

If the archive contains only the unsent notice, it cannot reconstruct the original text. See the WhatsApp and Instagram examples.

How do I save future message previews?

  1. Install Notification History Archive on an iPhone or iPad running iOS 27 or later.
  2. Follow Settings → Set Up Shortcuts in the app to add its prepared shortcut.
  3. In Shortcuts, edit the notification trigger, select WhatsApp and Instagram, and turn on Automation.
  4. Return to the app and complete its capture test. Then test a new message from each selected app.

Why is the saved message missing or incomplete?

Capture depends on the notification content iOS passes to Shortcuts. A hidden preview, a notification that never arrived, or a deletion before capture leaves no original text to save. Long messages can be truncated; media and full chat histories are not recovered.
